Our team is working hard on cleaning the ocean by systematically collecting the trash. During every diving session we do our best to get as much plastics as possible also, the waste hidden between rocks or floating around marine life.
However, cleaning just the underwater or surface space has no point without cleaning the beach (most of the trash floating in water comes from the shore being brought in by wind), so our focus concentrates not just on the water area.
At least once per week all of us go together to the beach for collecting trash. By this time, with a little help from tourists, we usually get easily few kg of garbage
It is just unbelievable, what we find at the shore except plastic bags or bottles: old shoes, used mobile phones, baby diapers, broken toys, sun glasses, pieces of jewellery and many other things
For the last few weeks we collected already over 25kg of trash and it is still small part of the rest of them waiting to be picked up. Hopefully our activity will inspire local community and soon they will join us in making our environment clean and friendly.
International Coastal Clean-up Day is an example of what we can do every day. When you go to the beach, make sure you throw out your garbage in the appropriate containers. If you have bottles, cans and other materials that are recyclable, make sure you recycle them or take them with you until you can reach a recycling centre. When trash stays on the beach or goes into the water, it harms the environment and fish and other aquatic life in our lakes and oceans. It is important we do our part to keep them safe!
